To translators: a hint to use escaping quotes correctly

To translators: a hint to use escaping quotes correctly
04 December 2022

Here is an important article for all translators who are managing product localizations and is related to escaping quotes.

We have determined an issue in some product localizations related to escaping quotes. And if your localizations consist of such escaping quotes, the end user will get no translation due to syntax issue in archives generated by the software.

Example:
<a href="https://site.com">

A normal escaping should be as:
<a href=\"https://site.com\">

But if you use such a method, the final .zip archive has a risk to be converted into this line:
<a href="/_QQ_"https://site.com"_QQ_">

This is incorrect and the final translation will not be available to the end user due to syntax error.

This issue may occur due to the bug in the translation software soon to be fixed, but it is better to make your translations safe.

Please use apostrophe (') instead of quote escaping.

Example in the language string:
<a href="https://site.com">

You have to use this method:
<a href='https://site.com'>

A note to remember
" double quotes
' single quote/apostrophe

Double quotes ( " ) should be replaced to single quote/apostrophe ( ' )

Please update your translations, if needed.

Example of the string:

COM_COMPETITION_FIELD_COMPETITION_START_TIME_DESC="Show or hide the start
date of the contest. Is displayed when the information is not set to 'Hide'."

Here are no escaping quotes - we have used apostrophe for a word 'Hide'. If your translations do not have escaping quotes, then no actions should be taken.

Good luck!
