Drop support for NorrCompetition 1.8. Hello version 2.0!

Drop support for NorrCompetition 1.8. Hello version 2.0!
10 August 2023

NorrCompetition 1.8 will reach its End of Life on August 17, 2023, together with Joomla 3 series. All users can migrate to NorrCompetition 2.0.

The end of Joomla 3 series is approaching. On August 17, 2023, Joomla will officially be dropping support for Joomla 3 and the Joomla team has announced that all users will have to migrate to Joomla 4 before that time to continue being supported for malware and software fixes.

The development of NorrCompetition version 1.x is already stopped and only critical fixes are planned to release, but the End of Life for NorrCompetion series 1.x will be reached together with Joomla 3. After 17th of August, NorrCompetiton 1.x will be dropped.

Note: if your project is based on Joomla 3 and NorrCompetition 1.8, it is time to do migration to version 2.0 and use the latest version of CMS and extensions.

How to migrate NorrCompetition 1.8 to 2.0?

There is nothing extraordinary. You need to migrate Joomla to version 4 and then perform updating of NorrCompetition as a typical extension via Joomla updater or make a fresh installation over existing version.
Please note that NorrCompetition 2.x series (component and modules) come with one default template. If you made some template overrides, you need to repeat adding changes with the new default template.

What is the status of NorrCompetition?

We are focused on NorrCompetition 2.0 series, which is a new cycle of product development. The voting contest extension is Joomla 4 ready and works well under PHP 8.1+. NorrCompetition has reached 8 years of existing, this is our top product, and we continue working to make this voting contest extension for Joomla even better. More news will come.
