I have been searching more about the Grand Prix capability. We have multiple contests, but want only selected experts to vote in particular contests whereas the other contests are open to the public. Am I correct that this is simply done by assigning a special group to the experts, and set the voting permissions according to the group level?

Hi Don,
You are correct. If you want only selected users to vote, then simply assign a special group to that users and set the voting permissions for this group only.
Note that the standard Grand Prix feaure in the component is something else - it allows to assign Grand Prix status to ONE entry in the contest.
