In the Joomla ecosystem, Dmitry is recognized as the developer behind popular extensions like the Quantum Manager file manager, the Revars plugin, and the MultiField plugin. However, as is often the case, users of these tools are frequently unfamiliar with the person who created them. We sat down with Dmitry to ask him our questions.
1. Let’s get to know you. Tell us a bit about yourself.
I am a top-middle PHP developer working full-time for a company. We have a small but very friendly and highly professional team.
Joomla is a key part of my work. We use it to power our corporate website, which features a complex multi-domain structure and a client portal. I also develop Joomla extensions in my own time, often to solve a specific need or to fill a functionality gap I’ve encountered.
2. How did you first become acquainted with Joomla?
3. Do you contribute to the Joomla community, and if so, how?
I try to contribute in a few ways:
- I provide support and answer questions in the community chat when I can.
- I develop and maintain several extensions, including:
- Quantum Manager
- The Revars shortcode plugin
- The Radical MultiField plugin
- Extensions for RadicalMart (implementing dynamic functionality for YooTheme Pro)
- I’m currently working on integrating EditorJS for Joomla to create a universal editing experience across different components.
- I have also worked on adapting external library as MPdf within Joomla.
- I also adapted the Intervention Image library for Joomla.
4. What motivates you to do this work?
I have a genuine interest in advancing Open Source software, and Joomla is a fantastic ecosystem for that. For instance, a key motivation behind developing Quantum Manager was to prove that it's still possible to create a highly sought-after and impactful extension that meets a real need in the community.
5. Joomla is celebrating its 20th anniversary. What are your reflections on this milestone?
I’d really like to take this opportunity to thank the many people from the Russian Joomla community who have helped me grow professionally.
I’m particularly grateful to: Vladimir Eliseev, Igor Berdichevsky, Artyom Vasilyev, Eugene Sivokon, Vladimir Sergienko, Vadim Kunitsyn, and everyone else I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with on Joomla projects.
While I unfortunately don’t have the bandwidth to submit official Pull Requests to the core Joomla repository myself, I sincerely hope to see more community members stepping up to contribute in this way.
